Holy Spirit Part 6

A New Thing

Well our verse is still hanging in there.

John 16:14

He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.

Let's look at some of the verses around this one.

John 16:13-15

13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

He will tell you of what is yet to come. I believe that is what is going on right here right now. I believe the Spirit is leading us into a new level of relationship with Christ. He is leading us to become closer to Him because of what is to come.

While we were in Ft. Smith for My Father-in law Larry's funeral, I had a chance to talk to my brother-in-law. If you remember, all this came about in the Tuesday nite study group that Cheryl and I attend. They also have a Tuesday nite group that the Spirit is moving in exactly the same way He is moving here. He told me that the theme is moving closer to Christ because there is something big coming. If you remember what I told you about the people in our groups, the ones that participate in other groups, God is doing the same exact thing. This is certainly no accident. There are thousands of people that have prayed for revival in this country for years and years. I believe that it is coming to pass and I don't want us to miss it.

The Holy Spirit led me to a verse that I used a couple weeks ago.

Isaiah 43:21

the people I formed for myself
that they may proclaim my praise.

I try to read around the verse that I'm in to get some context. It was a revelation moment for me. As soon as I began reading these verses it became perfectly clear to me what all of this go to the next level with God stuff was all about. Let's look at the verses...

Isaiah 43:18-21  (NIV)

 18 "Forget the former things;
do not dwell on the past.
19 See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert
and streams in the wasteland.
20 The wild animals honor me,
the jackals and the owls,
because I provide water in the desert
and streams in the wasteland,
to give drink to my people, my chosen,
21 the people I formed for myself
that they may proclaim my praise.

I really liked these verses in the message bible...

Isaiah 43:18-21 (MSG)

18"Forget about what's happened;
don't keep going over old history.

19Be alert, be present. I'm about to do something brand-new.
It's bursting out! Don't you see it?
There it is! I'm making a road through the desert,
rivers in the badlands.

20Wild animals will say "Thank you!'
-the coyotes and the buzzards--
Because I provided water in the desert,
rivers through the sun--baked earth,
Drinking water for the people I chose,

21the people I made especially for myself,
a people custom-made to praise me.

God is doing a new thing. The verses even go as far as to say "don't you see it"? I feel it in my soul that God is trying to speak to us in a way that we will finally get it. in a way that we will finally obey Him. That is what the covenant that I gave you all is all about. Obeying God by honoring Him by doing what He put us here to do....praise Him and to be ready for what is coming. I truly believe that if we can get to that place then God has something big waiting on us there.

I believe that God is telling us to live holy and to honor Him with all we are and all we do. You don't have to live holy to come to church but you do have to live holy to get close to God. How do we live holy? Remember...

Romans 12:1-2

1Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God--this is your spiritual act of worship. 2Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is--his good, pleasing and perfect will.

That ties this all together. Offer your bodies as living sacrifices holy and pleasing to God. Is you life holy and pleasing to God? Do you love God more than the things of this world?

Job 23:12

I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.

That is what we are supposed to do, treasure God and His word more than the things of this world. More than our daily bread. Offer your everyday lives to Him then you will know His will. You will be changed from the inside out by the filling of the Holy Spirit. If we know His will and we recognize what He wants from us, that is the Spirit moving in us. Is that not the same thing that we read about back in John?

John 16:13-15

13But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you. 15All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will take from what is mine and make it known to you.

It says the Holy Spirit will tell us what is to come. Is that not the same as knowing His will for your future? Is that not taking from Jesus and making it ours? That means that if we are living the way that God says we are to live then why would we need to worry about the future? Is this making sense? Do we agree that we need to move to the next level with God?

Ok if we agree that we need to move to the next level, then how exactly do we do that?

We must rely on the Spirit's guidance. I hope and pray that you will learn something from my teaching but the one you must really learn from is the Holy Spirit. No man, not me, not Tom Shaw, no one can teach you what the Holy Spirit can teach you. No man. You must get divine revaluation from God to know what you must know to do what we are talking about doing here. To know the truth of what God is really saying to each of you. In fact, you must have the revelation from God that you even need to do what we are talking about doing here. Without true revelation knowledge that you need to move to that next level this means nothing to you. In the 6th chapter of John Jesus feeds the 500 and walks on the water. He explains that He is the bread of life and that we must eat of His flesh and drink of His blood to be saved. This freaked out many of the followers. They said that this teaching was too hard. Many of them deserted even Him. In verse 45 He says...

John 6:45

It is written in the Prophets: 'They will all be taught by God.' Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me.

This is what I am talking about. This is the knowledge and teaching that we must have. Teaching from God not just about God.

1John 2:27

As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit - just as it has taught you, remain in him.

1 John 2:20

But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.

It is our privilege as Christians to be taught by God. Most of you have been in church most of your lives. You have been taught be lots of people over that time but if you have never been taught by God Himself then you will never know the deep things of God. The things that God really want us to know. We really don't need any more information. We need more revelation. We will never completely know the truth until we are taught directly by the Holy spirit. No amount of human teaching, no matter who the teachers may be, will ever give us a exact picture of what truth really is. You can not study the bible in your own strength and get what I'm talking about getting here. There is only one way. The one that is taught of God will understand the truth of God and will want to move to that next level because of it. This is not something that happens over night. It is a day by day week by week process. If you don't feel that the Spirit is leading you and you are not being taught by God then pray and ask God to reveal Himself to you through the scripture and He will do it. I have been there. I have been through time that I have read and read and got nothing and then suddenly the Word opened up like never before. That happened again for me this week in the Masterlife study.

We talked a couple weeks ago about parallel things happening between the path God had me on in my life and the study going on in Masterlife. This week it all came together.

This week's study was about the Spirit illuminating the Word to guide us. It said the basic job of the Holy Spirit is to show us the truth. If you read the bible and look at your Christian walk with a logical and analytical approach and then conclude, This is what God is saying to me, you are missing a very important part of letting the Spirit guide you. That is where I was not too long ago. Basically trying to figure out what God wanted on my own. I now understand that the Spirit will bring revelation through the scriptures if you will let Him. I truly believe that is exactly what happened to me when I was reading the verses in Isaiah. Moving to that next level will require us to allow the Holy Spirit to illuminate the scripture and then walk on the basis of that illumination. You might think that sounds a little mystical. That might sound a little out there compared to what you are used to but that's OK. I think we might get just a little bit out there in the coming weeks. :o) The very essence of Christianity is a little mystical. Right? You can not put it in a test tube. The Holy Spirit reveals God's presence in your life. The Holy Spirit inspired those who wrote the book we just have to let Him work in us to interpret what is written and to help us apply it to our lives. The Spirit illuminates the Word for those who seek to know and do God's will. We discover God's will through the systematic intake of the Word. It becomes God's personal Word to us as the Spirit reveals the truth of God to us. That allows us as we obey in faith and seek God's face in everything we do. Once we can do that, we are on the way to that next level and we are on the way to the place we need to be to allow God to move in that new way.

The things that Masterlife says are the keys to moving to a closer relationship with God are...

Putting on God's armor, praying in faith and letting the Spirit illuminate the Word. Does any of that sound familiar? I felt led to study the armor and then prayer and now the Spirit. It's almost like there was a plan. :o) The pieces are all falling together. We must rely on the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is the teacher in a Christian's life. Under His guidance the words of the bible become a word from the Father to each of us. The verses we started with show this perfectly. Let's look back at them...
